Death by Numbers

Losing count of my Gunpla collection after 50, I've picked out several kits to build out of the box, bit by bit every day, until it became routine.  Starting with the 1/144-scale High Grade Impulse Gundam Lancier (above), which was featured in this blog sometime ago.  Fast-forward to the present day, it still looks like this . . .

Quite a bit has happened back then, even before the pandemic, and this model has since been lost to time and the pile.  Between digging it out and shredding piles of junk mail, I started building another Gunpla to scratch that itch . . .

1/144 HGFC Death Army

This unlikely entry in Bandai Spirits' High Grade series of models comes from Mobile Fighter G Gundam, still my all-time favorite Gundam show (with Iron-Blooded Orphans being a close second).  Along with the Leo and Maganac from Gundam Wing, the Death Army is a mass-produced grunt unit you can buy a whole stock of without anyone calling you out, unless they want to build their own Death Army.

Here are all the parts.  The included sticker sheet wouldn't be used and was left out.

Here's the instruction manual and an insert with hints for a simple and clean building experience.

This is the DA unit once assembled.  Only its single eye needed painting, and was set aside.  An extra hand's included to hold the spiked club . . .

Which doubles as a rifle.

Here's the rear view.  The holes on the back leave room for customization and suggest the release of Death Army variants in the future.

Once I get rid of these gaping seamlines and mold lines, all that'll be left is to detail the model and spray on a matte clear coat.

That's all folks!  Next time I'll go back to my gaming backlog but I will finish this Gunpla, and check out my other toys, in the immediate future, as I continue climbing to the Top of the Heap.

On an unrelated note, I noticed that my recent blogs had issues in regards to the font in certain spaces, specifically in the previews.  Thus, I'm taking extra care in minimizing these errors.

I picked up the 1/44-scale HG Death Army kit at GameStop.
