A few weeks ago, I dropped everything to build yet another Gundam model I've pre-ordered months before. Before adding the finishing touches (namely, spraying on a topcoat), a heat wave hit the neighborhood. And I now I'm looking for something else to do until things cool down. Except I can't focus on anything in particular cuz the humidity's so uncomfortable. I can't even play with my Switch in this heat cuz the console itself would overheat and drain the battery. Luckily the Switch offers just the thing for playing in short bursts.
Capcom Arcade Stadium
Though trying to stay ahead of other companies in the game preservation racket, Capcom's arcade compilation doesn't offer much unless you buy the $40 bundle. The free download throws a freebie here and there, starting with my first love, Street Fighter II: The World Warrior.
Pitting the original eight World Warriors against Shadawloo's Final Four, it's as basic as Street Fighter can be. With several display options available, including frames resembling an arcade cabinet, it takes me back to when I'd get pummeled by the computer, my classmates and total strangers. Not to mention that the available Save and Rewind options will definitely come in handy in future playthroughs.
Next up is the run-and-gun platformer Ghost n' Goblins. Either I need to adjust the game's speed or get fast hands cuz your enemies will jump on your mistakes in a second. Suffice to say it'll take quite a few tries to make it pass the first level. Also available for free is the shoot 'em up 1943: The Battle of Midway, which I haven't touched yet.
Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium
The recently released Volume 2 of Capcom's digital collection offers even less than before but that's sure to change in the coming months. In the meantime, I blew my eShop coins on 2 DLC titles that piqued my interest.
But first, I tried the Donkey-Kong-like platformer SonSon, where you basically go pew-pew on baddies across a multilayered platform. Another time-killer I'd really enjoy if I just lower the game speed.
Though I've been collecting Mega Man games wherever I could play them, I play them very, very sporadically; starting with Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man: Powered Up for the PSP. Both arcade spin-offs that have been ported to 6th-generation consoles, Mega Man: The Power Battle and its sequel The Power Fighters are now available for consumption on AC2S. These are technically the first games in the series I've ever completed; it helps that they're also probably 2 of the shortest games in the series.
Both The Power Battle and The Power Fighters are boss-rush titles, where you fight Dr. Wily's Robot Masters and use their weapons against them. Like in the main titles, each weapon has an advantage over another. But I'd wind up using whatever hits the hardest in the heat of the moment. Both games offer multiple characters and missions to choose from, with Power Fighters making minor improvements.
And there you have it. For the next blog, I might take the chance of finishing up my Gunpla in this weather. Plus, Splatoon 3's coming out in September, so I'll be practicing with Splatoon 2. I also hope to catch up on some reading. So till next time, be good, stay safe.
