Freedom's Delay

After months of unfinished drafts and model builds, I woke up one Sunday morning and decided, out of the blue, on building yet another Gundam model I've had in the backburner to blog about for the 4th of July.  After missing the date, naturally, I hoped to be done in time for when I hit a personal milestone later that month.  When I missed that too, I worked night after night to wrap it all up before the end of July.

It was supposed to be a simple job, light work to eventually get me back to working on the unfinished kits I've had to look at day after day when I came home.  And you couldn't ask for a better kit to commemorate the 4th of July.

1/144 EG RX-78-2 (US) Gundam (American Type)

I actually found 2 of these Target-exclusive kits at a so-called discount shop full of overpriced anime figs.  Based on the Gundam Breaker Battlogue anime which, in turn, is based on the Gundam Breaker series of games, it's basically a recolored mold of the 1/144-scale EG RX-78-2 Gundam.

Remolded in the colors of the American flag and omitting the yellow bits, the kit includes a set of stickers to add to the motif.

But as I was finishing up the model I wasn't satisfied with how plain it looked, even after filling in the panel lines.

So along with the stickers, I added a whole mess of decals I've had for years.  I've also painted on some details here and there, the largest area being the back of the shield (which I didn't think to turn over for this pic).

Finally sealing the deal with Tamiya's flat clear coat (which I ran out of and had to replace), the Gundam American Type was complete.  The road was longer than I expected but once done, our nation flourished.

That's it for my belated little tribute to our freedom.  I hope you'll join me when I finally pull an unfinished Gunpla from the Top of the Heap.  See you next time!
